CHAPTER 56
Tobias, overwhelmed by grief, decides to head back to his original Abnegation home in Chicago. Once he gets there, he makes his way to a mirror and he grabs a pair of hair clippers. He gives himself a buzz-cut and then cleans up his hair from the ground. Then, he removes a vial of memory serum.
Before drinking the serum, he reveals important events that have occurred. Johanna talked to the government and now Chicago will become another city like any other. The Bureau will look over Chicago. It will now be a safe-haven for those who believe in genetic equality among all people.
Before long, Tobias’ solace is interrupted by Christina. Matthew told Christina that Tobias had left to the city with memory serum in his possession. Christina knows full well what Tobias intends to do and she came to stop him. She tells Tobias that he’s acting cowardly. She demands the serum from him before he does something rash. She even tells him that Tris wouldn’t want this. Tris would want Tobias to remember her.
After a bit of emotional banter, Tobias breaks into tears. Christina comforts him and he hands her the vial. She lets him know that she’ll be there for him.
Tobias realizes that he has to be brave and move forward while dealing with his pain.
