CHAPTER 45: TRIS
Tris, Caleb, and Matthew have met up to go over the protocol for releasing the memory serum. Once he’s inside the Weapon’s Lab, Caleb is to enter a code and press a button. Then, the memory serum will be released. He will be wearing a bodysuit that will protect him for a bit from the death serum.
After a while, Matthew leaves so Tris can speak to Caleb privately. They reflect on their childhood together. Then, they start playing a childhood game called “Candor” in which they spoke truths to each other. Caleb asks if he’s been forgiven. Tris answers “yes,” although she’s not really sure if she’s being truthful. Tris then gets Caleb to explain his motives for this act of self-sacrifice. He reveals that he lives with too much guilt for his past actions.
The siblings are still conversing when all of a sudden the compound goes into an emergency lockdown. Matthew comes in and tells them that they must act immediately since the lockdown is occurring. Nobody knows why the Bureau chose to lockdown now, but they need to act fast.
