CHAPTER 20: TOBIAS
Tobias has taken the time to meet up with Nita. She wants to give him some more insight about their condition. Tobias sees himself as being “damaged” and it’s a hard pill to swallow.
Nita escorts Tobias down into the underground level of the airport. Nita is going to have Tobias visit the support staff who work there. She describes the support staff as genetically damaged people, GDs. Those with more important positions are genetically pure, GPs.
Tobias has mixed feelings about this class division. He saw how saw how class division worked out with the factions. To make matters worse, Nita states that they have limits on how far they climb up the career-path ladder as GDs. The GPs get the higher positions. This is also a hard pill for Tobias to swallow.
Nita brings Tobias to a bar-like place with seats and a stage. They’re barely there when an announcement is made: Marcus’ verdict is about to be revealed. Tobias runs out and makes his way to the control room where he can watch everything unfold.
Tobias watches on a screen as Evelyn is about to make her announcement. She says that even though Marcus was a decent leader when the factions were intact, he has committed many crimes. As a result of his actions, he is going to be banished from the city. Tobias doesn’t know how to react.
