ALLEGIANT -- CHAPTER 8: TRIS
CHAPTER 8: TRIS
Tris has learned of Caleb’s trial. She has mixed feelings about what may happen to her brother. On one hand, he is her brother. On the other hand, he totally betrayed her and chose the Erudites over her.
Her thoughts are interrupted by Christina and Uriah. They come in so Tris can talk to them about something important. She describes the Allegiant invitation that she received. The two deliberate slightly on what to do, but at the end they decide to go to the meeting with Tris.
Later that night, Tris, Christina, and Uriah sneak off to get to the meeting. Zeke and Tobias were also invited and they’ll be traveling separately. The only person who wasn’t invited was Cara. Tris finds this odd.
The group is able to easily avoid factionless guards who now enforce the curfew. They make their way into the Candor building where Tobias awaits.
Tris is, of course, happy to see Tobias. After they greet each other, she asks him if he knows the fate of his brother. He lets her know that they are going to kill him for his actions. Tris isn’t surprised. She has mixed feelings about Caleb’s execution.
The group makes their way up stairs to the old interrogation room. Tris and Tobias remember the room well. There, they find many people including some that they know, such as Peter and Tori. Christina’s mom and sister are there too.
Christina introduces her family to Tris. Christina’s sister, Rose, immediately verbally scolds Tris for killing Will. Sensing the awkwardness, Christina walks her friends away from her family.
Soon, the meeting begins. The leaders of the Allegiant turn out to be Johanna Reyes and Cara. They announce their goals for the Allegiants: they want to return things to the way they once were with factions; and they want to have some people leave the city’s fence. The main thing they want to do tonight is figure out how to get out of the city and who will be leaving the city. Cara is the one who will be leading the escape.
The Allegiants chose to invite these particular people to tonight’s meeting because they feel that they’re the ones who are experienced enough to exit the city. Everybody gets to choose if they’re up for participating or not.
Tris isn’t too happy that Peter’s been invited, but she understands that he did help to save her. They plan to leave the city by using a simple plan. They’ll use Amity trucks to drive out. Johanna can easily get the trucks.
