CHAPTER 7: TRIS
Now that the riot has ended, Christina brings up an interesting point. She states that many of the Dauntless transfer initiates are now deceased. Tris thinks about Edward’s great potential as an initiate. Then, she wonders what happened to his girlfriend, Myra, who joined the factionless with Edward.
Christina and Tris make their way to the Hancock building. As they make their way up an elevator within the building, they discuss their futures. Although Christina has a family that she’ll be leaving, she’s intent on leaving the confines of the fence. She wants out of Chicago.
The two meet up with Uriah and Zeke at the top of the building. They’re there to stare out into the vast unknown and to simply talk to each other. It seems that the four are intent on leaving the city.
The scene transitions to the following day. At the Erudite compound, Evelyn announces a series of new rules. She aims to prevent any future uprisings with these rules. Her first rule is a nine o’clock curfew. Her next rule is to give everybody a rotating job schedule.
When Tris leaves the area, she encounters a Candor being beat up for wearing his Candor clothing. People are now forced to mix their style of dress, but this boy kept his original outfit. Tris stops the young factionless crowd from beating up the boy. She threatens them and gives the boy her sweatshirt to wear.
As she leaves the scene, she feels as if she’s being followed. Sure enough, she is overtaken by a group of Allegiants who cover her head with a sack. They describe how they know that she doesn’t believe in Evelyn’s ideals. They want her to join them for a midnight meeting tomorrow at the Candor building. After giving the invite, they run off without giving Tris a chance to figure out who they are.
