  ALLEGIANT -- CHAPTER 34: TRIS
CHAPTER 34: TRIS
Tris recently told David that she would go check out the fringe. She’s fitted with a bullet-proof vest before they leave. She’ll be escorted by Amar and George, former Dauntless who now work security. They are also joined by more security, Jack and Violet, as well as somebody named Ann.

On top of showing the fringe to Tris, the group will also be setting up new security equipment in the fringe.

When they get close to the fringe, they leave the truck and continue on foot. Tris is a little anxious because her mother once called the fringe her home.

As she walks with her bodyguard, Amar, Tris is saddened by the poverty of the area. It kind of reminds her of the factionless’ territory. Amar explains that the Bureau doesn’t provide assistance to the people of the fringe. They must survive on their own.

Eventually, they begin heading back to the truck. Random gunfire and shouts from George suddenly emerge. Tris is left alone. Tris isn’t sure what to do. Luckily, a woman named Amy pulls her into a tent-like home.

Tris explains how she’s originally from Chicago. Amy is aware of the experiment in Chicago. She isn’t happy with the idea of such an experiment because it makes the genetically damaged seem like abnormalities.

It doesn’t take long before Amy tells Tris that’s it’s probably safe to go now. Amy even points Tris into the right direction, the north of the fringe. Tris follows Amy’s suggestion and runs into George who is being held captive by a boy with a gun. The boy reveals that the Bureau has been kidnapping people from the fringe. He wants to know where they are.

Tris soon has her gun pointed at the boy, but the boy refuses to let George go. Luckily, Amar shows up and everybody who has gathered to watch the scene runs. The boy also takes off.

Soon after, the group begins to head back to the Bureau from the fringe. As they drive, Tris questions Amar about his history with Four. Amar gave Four his nickname when he helped to train him as a Dauntless. Amar has also seen how troubled Four has become. Amar hints that he once liked Four as more than just a friend, but those kind of feelings were not reciprocated. Amar reveals in secret that he is now together with George. He makes Tris promise not to unveil his secret since the Bureau wouldn’t accept it. They only accept those who are willing to pass on their genes to future generations.

As the ride continues, Amar admits that Four changes when he’s around Tris. He becomes a better person. Amar knows how Four was before Tris and he describes him as a little crazy at times. Tris brings the best out of Tobias.
