  ALLEGIANT -- CHAPTER 31: TOBIAS
CHAPTER 31: TOBIAS
Tobias still feels like an outcast after his actions. He does not feel comfortable going to the dorm, so he goes to the control room. From the control room he’s able to watch what’s going on within the city. One person, in particular, catches his eye. It’s his father, Marcus.

Marcus is approached by Johanna. Johanna points out that Marcus asked to meet up with her. Johanna is quick to chastise Marcus for being abusive towards Tobias and his wife. Marcus isn’t sure how to react.

Johanna pushes the conversation forward to figure out what Marcus wants with her. She is the leader of the Allegiants and consequently, she has a little power. Marcus wants to use that bit of power to start a new rebellion to take down Evelyn and the factionless. Evelyn and the factionless run the place because they have the city’s weapons. Marcus believes they can reinstate a peaceful place if they take the weapons away from the factionless. Tobias watches helplessly as Marcus uses his persuasive tactics to coax Johanna to join his cause.

Tobias’ attention is then turned to a different screen in the control center. It’s his mother, Evelyn. She’s joined by Therese who informs her that Marcus is nowhere to be found. Evelyn wants to get rid of Marcus for good.

Tobias reflects upon his own personality and he realizes that he’s a lot like both his mom and dad.
