Early that evening, the group gathers to enjoy one final meal before the plan takes shape. Chuck talks to Thomas about everything. Chuck seems relieved that only one person among them all will be killed by the Grievers. Thomas holds his tongue, but he’s still wary about this idea.

Thomas speaks optimistically to Chuck. Even though he’s nervous about everything, he tells Chuck that they can make it and that he’ll live to see people who care about him.

Soon, Alby and Newt begin to initiate the plan. They gather people and Newt begins to speak to the Gladers. Meanwhile, Teresa fills Minho in on how he’ll serve as a backup in case she and Thomas can’t fulfill their duty of punching in the code.

Thomas watches Alby from a distance. His gut tells him that Alby might screw everything up. They must, though, proceed with the plan.

Minho and then Newt give speeches to rally the troops. Soon they’re all on their way to the Griever Hole. Thomas feels a great deal of responsibility and pressure as they proceed.
