The boys have to wait thirty minutes for the delivery to come up from the Box. Meanwhile, Thomas talks to Chuck. Thomas theorizes that maybe they should try to go down the Box’s doors when it opens during a delivery. Chuck lets him know that it’s been attempted and all that’s down there is a whole lot of nothing. Chuck explains how they even sent a kid down on a rope one time and he was cut in half while descending.

As they talk, Thomas exchanges bad glances with Gally. Gally is apparently not too fond of Thomas.

Alby and Newt, who had gone over to the Homestead, come back. As they approach, Thomas reflects on what he saw happening to Ben. Chuck tells Thomas that the Grievers are capable of changing a person if they’re attacked.

Soon enough, the Box reaches the top. Thomas and Newt are the first ones to peer inside at the new Glader. Newt, especially, seems surprised at what he sees: a girl! Thomas, just then, realizes that the Glades only consist of boys.

The boys hoist the girl out of the Box with the help of ropes. She seems dead and lifeless. Thomas can only catch a glimpse of her, since the other boys quickly gather around her in curiosity. He describes her as teenager with pale skin and black hair.

Unexpectedly, Newt asks Thomas to come over to the girl. As he makes his way there, he feels the other boys stare at him with almost a sense of hatred.

When Thomas reaches the beautiful girl, Alby interrogates Thomas to see if he’s familiar with the lifeless girl. Thomas has no idea who she is.

Suddenly, the girl begins to stir awake. The boys thought she was dead so they’re a bit shocked. Just before she passes out again, she warns them that change is coming. Even more mysterious is a note she holds that tells them that she’s “the last one.”
