Alby is eager to put Teresa in the Slammer. She’s started something terrible in the Glades, and he’s determined to punish her. Using her telepathic ability, Teresa asks Thomas to come see her in the Slammer. Thomas tries to respond telepathically, but he isn’t sure if his message reaches her. He says that he’ll go see her and she’ll be safe there.

The color of the sky hasn’t changed, but it’s eerily darker. The boys get to work during the odd night. The Builders try to build barricades to block the Maze Door’s entrances. Other boys prepare to bunker down for the night in the Homestead.

Thomas tries to help Minho at some point, but Minho isn’t very nice to him. Next, Thomas tries to talk to Newt as he walks to the Blood House. Likewise, Newt isn’t very nice to him. He tries to convince Newt to free Teresa from the Slammer; this is not the conversation topic Thomas should have gone with.

Thomas tells Newt that Teresa was the trigger for something bigger that the Creator’s had planned. They wanted things to end. It wasn’t her fault. Newt begins to unwind and budge in his thoughts a bit. He admits that maybe tomorrow they can figure out what to do with her.

Thomas and Newt begin speculating about what they can do now. Thomas suggests they block or destroy the Griever Hole so that they can have extra time to explore the Maze safely at night. Newt agrees that they should try something new. He knows, though, that they’re number one objective right now is surviving the night.

Next, Thomas makes his way to go see Teresa. He speaks to Teresa from behind the bars or the Slammer. He tells Teresa his plan for the Maze, and how she might be let go tomorrow. Teresa supports Thomas. She also likes how she’ll probably be safe in the Slammer for the night, since the Grievers won’t be able to get in. Thomas is surprised that Teresa knows about Grievers. The creatures haven’t been mentioned to her yet.

Thomas promises to help get her out of the Slammer the next day. He feels guilty leaving her there alone; however, he knows it’s not safe to be out in the open right now.

All of the boys make their way to the Homestead where they lock themselves inside for the night.
