Following a moment of sheer silence, the room goes into a crazed chatter. People all seemed shocked at what Minho said. Especially shocked is Thomas.

After a long while, Newt is able to call everybody to order. Newt asks Minho to describe his reasoning. He begins by stating that not many of them have Runner experience. Only Newt really does. Gally interjects and says that he has some experience too; but, Minho shushes him by basically saying that running into the Maze and getting stung doesn’t count as experience.

Minho goes into great detail about how calm, collected, and heroic Thomas acted in the Maze. The other boys took forever to get settled in the Glade, but Thomas came along and did the extraordinary after just a few days of being there.

Gally keeps on interrupting Minho’s speech. Minho calls him out for never wanting to become a Runner. Gally threatens to break Minho’s neck if he keeps trash talking. Surprisingly, Minho shoves Gally to the ground and pins him there almost effortlessly. Others take action in holding Minho back.

Gally gets up from the floor and begins to exit the room. As he does so, he speaks a warning to Minho and to Newt. In an instance of clear foreshadowing, he says that change is coming. He also mutters out that Newt shouldn’t be their leader.

The last person he addresses before exiting is Thomas. He reveals that he remembered Thomas from when he went through the Changing. He, lastly, threatens Thomas with his life before he leaves.
