Newt takes charge of the meeting. He steps up to Thomas and talks to him quietly. He asks Thomas to step out of the meeting and meet up with him later at the Box. The Keepers need a moment to speak in private. Newt says that he’s going to attempt to convince the others to make the jump into the Griever Hole. Furthermore, he doesn’t feel that Thomas shouldn’t be looking to sacrifice himself to the Grievers.

Newt concludes his conversation with Thomas by suggesting that they attempt to jump into the Griever Hole that very night. That way, the Grievers will all be busy in the Glades. Also, by going that night, they can hopefully prevent more unnecessary lives from being taken away. Newt leaves and Thomas takes off.

Thomas decides to meet up with Teresa. He begins to describe things to her telepathically. When she gets there, the two sit next to each other on a bench. Teresa comforts him by holding his hand. Thomas opens up at how scared he is at the whole plan. Teresa says that it’s normal to be frightened; he’s only human.
