INSURGENT -- CHAPTER 38
After talking to Marcus, Tris wonders if he can be trusted. As she thinks, she heads back to the house where her friends are at. Before she can get there, though, she notes a meeting going on right outside. People have gathered around metal drums that hold warm fires. The Dauntless leaders, Harrison, Tori, and Tobias, and the factionless leader, Evelyn, are having everybody gather so they can share their Erudite assault plans. Tris makes her way to her friends.
The leaders begin talking. They make their reasoning for the attack clear: knowledge has given the Erudites too much power. Next, Tori mentions that anybody who was injected with Erudite serum cannot participate in the attack. Tori, then, explains the attack plan. A large group will go through the front of the Erudite’s compound, while others move directly to the different stories of the building. The meeting concludes with cheers from everybody.
Tris is at odds with the plan because she doesn’t know how trustworthy the factionless are. Christina is also at odds with the plan because she feels like they’re stooping to the Erudite’s level.
Tris leaves and heads to Tobias’ room for rest. She is met, soon later, by Tobias. Tris explains her uncertainty with the alliance between these factions. She doesn’t know what will happen after the attack. Tobias tries to explain that this is their only true option.
While she continues to speak to Tobias, Tris secretly decides that she has to help Marcus. The truth has a remarkable power and she must seek it out. Tobias says that the group the two of them are in will seek the control room; however, Tris secretly knows that she will seek the Abnegation information that Jeannine stole. Instead of destroying the Erudites, instead of being by Tobias’ side, she will betray him and seek the truth.
