 INSURGENT -- CHAPTER 27
Tris, later, learns that cameras were left untouched in the dorms where those impacted by the simulation were sleeping. This error helped to contribute to Marlene’s death.

Still coping with Marlene’s death, Tris makes her way to a hallway. Christina finds her there. Christina now has seen Jeanine’s simulation in action. It’s the same type of simulation that controlled Will. She says that she can now begin to forgive Tris. Christina has seen the type of state that Will must have been in when he tried to kill Tris. Tris mutters a few words before she begins to break down. Christina quickly embraces her in a firm hug. She graces Tris with forgiveness.

Tris makes her way to the cafeteria where Lynn thanks Tris for rescuing Hec. She sits with Uriah and Zeke. Lynn has left to join Shauna. Shauna sits elsewhere in a wheelchair. Uriah explains that she’s keeping her distance after learning about his Divergence.

Tobias enters to have a conversation with the group. He lets them know that they’re upping security to help prevent the Erudite from killing anybody else. For now, that’s their only plan. Everybody agrees to the immediate measures.

Tris leaves, walking down memory lane as she makes her way through the Dauntless compound. She only stops when she gets to Tobias’ old room. She steps in and Tobias soon also enters.

Tobias knows Tris well enough to know that she plans to turn herself into the Erudites. Tris doesn’t want anybody else being driven to kill themselves through brainwashing. Tris reassures him by saying that she isn’t that important and that life would continue without her. Tobias makes it clear that his life would be different without Tris. He brings Tris close and they kiss.

As they continue their moment of passionate canoodling, Tobias makes Tris promise that she won’t go to the Erudite compound. She promises, but in reality she knows it’s a promise she can’t keep.
