 INSURGENT -- CHAPTER 26
Tris is sound asleep when Christina drags her out of bed. Christina is in a frenzy and she has Tris follow her towards the roof. As they run, Christina explains that some kind of simulation is taking place and a few people, like Marlene, are being impacted.

Once they get to the roof, they find Marlene, Hector, and a young girl on the ledge of the roof. They are prepared to jump. Christina thinks they should jump in and try to grab them; however, Tris fears doing so might force them to accidently push over the victims. Instead, Tris instructs Christina to get close to the little girl to perhaps grab her before she falls.

Marlene, suddenly, begins to speak. She warns that every two days a new Divergent must surrender to the Erudites or else people will continue jumping off the roof. Then, the three zombielike individuals begin to step off of the ledge. Tris, instinctively, jumps in and tries to save Hector. Tris knows that Lynn cannot go on without him. Tris successfully grabs him, but she needs Christina’s help to bring him to the rooftop. The little girl already lies safe on the rooftop.

Tris peers down at Marlene’s body below the building. She ignores whatever Christina has to say, and she returns to the elevator. There, she screams and recounts the message that Jeanine sent.
