INSURGENT -- CHAPTER 1
Tris is haunted by her memory of when she killed Will. She killed him out of necessity when he was about to attack her. He was brainwashed, manipulated, by the Erudites to attack her and others running along the streets. She had no choice to act in the way she did; however, the guilt of killing him plagues her.
Currently, Tris is still with Marcus, Peter, and Tobias. The group is on a train headed towards the Amity headquarters. Eventually, they reach their destination. In the darkness, they jump off the train near a road that the Amity use to deliver items to the other factions. The road leads to a fence with a locked gate. The fence is too difficult to climb and impossible to get around. The guards from the Dauntless who usually protect the gate are gone. The group is left to wonder what happened to the guards.
Tris takes a moment to think about what happened to the other factions. She wonders if the world is now in chaos. The Erudite’s schemed to control the Dauntless and they used them to destroy the Abnegation. Tris still holds the hard drive that manipulated the Dauntless into doing the Erudite’s bidding.
There is a keypad to open the gate door. Luckily, Tobias knows the numbered password to use on the keypad. He opens the gates and the group proceeds forward, led by Tris. Eventually, they reach the Amity headquarters. Marcus leads the group through the headquarters. He seems to know the area.
After a short while, they find Johanna Reyes. She is the speaker for the Amity. Tris recognizes her immediately. Johanna is relieved to see Marcus. According to Johanna, other Abnegation have also reached the Amity headquarters. Johanna says they can stay the night; however, she is not sure if her people will allow Tris and Tobias to stay very long. Somehow, Johanna is aware that they are both Dauntless.
In an apparent sign of peace, Tobias hands Johanna his gun. Tris is ready to give her gun over too, but Tobias secretly stops her from doing so. Johanna doesn’t know Tris has a gun and it might come in handy later.
Tobias introduces himself to Johanna as Four. Tobias introduces the others to Johanna as well.
Next, Johanna helps treat everybody’s wounds. Tris and Peter were both wounded. Peter’s wound is more severe than Tris’ and he is taken away for treatment.
The group moves onto the cafeteria. There, they encounter many Abnegation. They are happy to see Marcus. Tris has something warm to drink and then she is taken to a bedroom.
