 INSURGENT -- CHAPTER 16
Tris has two Candors by her side, a fearful older woman and a brave little boy. Dauntless traitors come to check in with Eric every so often to let him know of how everything is going. Meanwhile, all Tris can focus on is moving her hands ever so slowly behind her so she can grasp her knife. She intends to use the knife on Eric.

Eric begins to address the Dauntless who he has captured. He remarks on how he has to kill all the Dauntless who aren’t valuable to them. Then, he shoots the boy who sits at Tris’ side. He was too young, apparently, to be deemed useful to the Erudite. Tris screams, prompting Eric to come near him. Tris, then, takes her knife and plunges it into Eric. Eric falls.

A fight scene promptly takes place. The Dauntless traitors poor into the room, while the Divergents take action against them. Tobias suddenly enters the scene to protect Tris. He stands before her as the fighting ensues. Other Dauntless, the loyal Dauntless, have entered the scene and they attack the traitors. Soon, the good guys have triumphed.
