Katniss Everdeen. 
The main character in The Hunger Games, Katniss became the primary caretaker for her family at a young age when her father died. Later, she is unlucky enough to enter the Capitol’s Hunger Games as the female contender from her district. Luckily, the skills she developed as a provider for her family comes to use during the Games.

Primrose Everdeen. 
Katniss’ younger sister, Primrose (Prim for short) is Katniss’ major motivator—that is, 
Katniss is driven to support and aid Prim. Prim is young and innocent. She’s fortunate to have Katniss to really look over her.

Gale Hawthorne. 
Katniss’ best friend and confidant, he hunts and gathers with Katniss in the woods surrounding District 12.

Mr. Everdeen- Katniss’ father. 
Katniss taught her how to use bows and arrows to hunt in the woods of their district. He died unexpectedly when Katniss was a child. His death forced her to take the reins of her family.

Mrs. Everdeen- Katniss’ mother. 
After the death of her husband, Katniss’ mom entered a deep depression and she nearly allowed her family to starve to death. Katniss resents her mother for being such a poor provider for her and her sister, Prim.  

Peeta Mellark. 
Born and raised in District 12, he’s the son of the local baker. On the day of the reaping he is chosen as the male tribute from District 12 to be sent to the Hunger Games. During the Games he befriends the female tribute from his district, Katniss.

Haymitch Abernatchy.  
Haymitch is District 12’s town drunk. More importantly, he is the only living person 
from his district to have won and survived the Hunger Games. As the only living winner in his district, he is left to be the mentor of District 12’s tributes (the tributes are those chosen to enter the Hunger Games).

Effie Trinket. 
Effie is the sent by Capitol to bring Katniss and Peeta to the Capitol for the Hunger 
Games. As an escort, she oversees the two District 12 tributes prior to the Games.

Cinna. 
Katniss is fortunate enough to be given a stylist for the Hunger Games. It is his job to prepare her looks and her apparel for publicly televised events. Cinna goes beyond his given job and he supports Katniss during her time at the Capitol.

Rue. 
The female tribute from District 11, Rue befriends Katniss during the Games. Rue reminds Katniss of her sister 
Prim.

Caesar Flickerman. 
The gentleman who interviews the tributes before and after the Hunger Games.

Claudius Templesmith. 
The announcer during the Hunger Games.
