The interview with Caesar Flickerman begins with everybody being introduced. As the prep team and Effie are being introduced, Katniss finds Peeta along the side and rushes him with a hug. He smothers her with kisses. Haymitch then pushes them towards the stage where they will sit on a couch to be interviewed by Caesar Flickerman.

The interview will consist of three hours of talking and looking at clips, including the clips of the other tributes’ deaths. Katniss doesn’t want to watch the tributes die all over again, but with Peeta there she is comforted a bit.

Katniss watches the clips of everything, including all that Peeta went through to keep her safe like manipulating the Career Tributes and fighting Cato. She even has to watch Rue’s death all over again. Katniss numbs herself and pretends that she is watching strangers as she views the deaths of the tributes. Much of it is difficult to watch.

At the end of the interview, President Snow approaches with a crown that he splits in half for the two victors. Katniss notices the nature of his eyes as he places the crowns on their heads. Although he seems nice enough, his eyes tell a different story. He is not happy with Katniss.

Later, during their Victory Banquet, Katniss and Peeta spend most of the time taking pictures with various important people. After the Banquet, they are led off to their rooms for the night. Katniss makes an attempt to find Peeta but she cannot. At one point, her door is locked which impedes her from going to see Peeta. Katniss suspects that Haymitch might be playing a role in keeping them separated.

During the final interview, Peeta does most of the talking. Later, Katniss is asked for specific answers from Caesar about her feelings for Peeta. She must respond to these questions herself without Peeta’s support.

When questioned about when she first fell in love with Peeta, Katniss is at first dumbfounded. Caesar suggests that perhaps it was when she called out his name just after she learned that two tributes from the same district could win the Games together. Katniss agrees that it was that very moment.

Then, Caesar asks Peeta about his new leg. Katniss is horrified to learn that his leg has been replaced with some kind of prosthetic device. Katniss is so upset that she hides her face in Peeta’s shirt for a bit as Caesar questions him.

After a while, the time has come for Caesar to question Katniss about the berries. This is the question that can make or break Katniss. She explains that she thought of using the berries to commit suicide because she wouldn’t have been able to handle living without Peeta. Her answer works and before they know it, they are on a train headed home.

When they get a moment alone, Katniss reveals how upset the Capitol was with them and the berry stunt. She opens up on how Haymitch helped lead her through the interviews. Peeta is left heartbroken with the realization that all of Katniss’ actions may have just been a stunt aimed to help her survive the Hunger Games. His actions, on the other hand, were legit and true.

Peeta doesn’t talk to Katniss again until they get home. As they are about to exit the train, Katniss takes his hand for one last show for the audience.
