Divergent
 by Veronica Roth
  DIVERGENT -- CHAPTER 38
Tobias immediately demands that Tris drops her weapon. She does so, however, he continues to tell her to drop her weapon. He is apparently brainwashed to see something that is not there.

Tris responds by trying to take him down in hand-to-hand combat. A scuffle ensues. Tris is able to force his gun away during the scuffle. Later, she grabs his gun and points it at him. She is well aware that in a fight Tobias would win, and she knows using his gun might be a last resort.

As she points his gun at him, she speaks to Tobias in an attempt to snap him out of his hypnosis. Her attempts fail.
Her mind races with her options as he approaches. She knows that she has clear feelings for him. She also knows that killing him will not be worthwhile. Heeding the words of her father on how important it is to be selfless, she comes to a decision. She decides to hand the gun to Tobias.

Tobias puts the gun at her head. Meanwhile, Tris puts a hand on his heart. Regardless of her actions, Tobias prepares to shoot her.
