DIVERGENT -- CHAPTER 19
In the dorm, Peter is reading from a piece of Erudite propaganda. Since so many Abnegation transferred to different factions, the piece of writing questions the practices that taught these young Abnegations. The propaganda specifically targets Tris’ dad and cites Caleb and Tris as examples. The article infers that the two Prior children left their parents because of the bad values that their father taught them. The article even quotes Molly as saying that she’s heard Tris yell out at her dad in her sleep.
Tris, in a rage, tries to grab the paper from Peter. She is unsuccessful, so next she attacks Molly. Will pulls her off of Molly and takes her outside. Will tries to calm her down by explaining how arrogant his ex-faction, the Erudites are, and how jealous they are of those in power.
Christina and Al exit the dorm. They are headed out to go get Christina a new tattoo. Tris and Will join them.
After Christina and Tris get Dauntless tattoos, they head over to the chasm where they find a drunk Four with his friends.
Four walks away from his friends and heads on over to Tris and her entourage. Although there are others there, Four only speaks to Tris. He says that she shouldn’t be seeing him in this non-work mode, and he even whispers a compliment to Tris about her looks.
As Four walks off, Al comes from behind, grabs Tris, and whisks her away to dinner. The others of their group walk with them.
At dinner, Al is visibly disappointed with what is going on between Tris and Four. The others are curious about Tris’ relationship with Four and they pry her a bit for answers. Tris, however, doesn’t have much of a response for them. She just figures Four was drunk.
Dinner moves on and Tris reminiscences about her time at her Abnegation home. She enjoyed her time there, yet she never experienced such freedom there as she does here.
