  CATCHING FIRE -- CHAPTER 27
The entire arena is beginning to go up in explosions and flames when Katniss is saved by a hovercraft. Inside the hovercraft she’s greeted by the Head Gamemaker, Plutarch Heavensbee. Katniss blacks out.

When Katniss wakes up, she’s on a bed with tubes going into her. She wrestles some tubes out in hopes to see if she still has an arm, but she quickly blacks out again.

Katniss wakes up another time, but now she’s restrained. She notices that Beetee is unconscious on a bed near her. She wishes that they were just left to pass away. She passes out again.

When Katniss gets up again, she is free of restraints. She finds a syringe that she can use as a weapon. Thinking that the Capitol will surely torture the tributes who happened to escape, Katniss considers killing Beetee now to help him avoid future misery; however, she decides not to since she wants to remain sly and unseen. She heads out of her room in search of Peeta.

Katniss finds herself at a door where people speak inside. She listens to hear Plutarch Heavensbee, Finnick, and Haymitch. Upon hearing Haymitch’s voice, she jumps into the room.

They sit Katniss down to describe what has happened. Apparently, there have been plans for a rebellion stirring up for several years now. Plutarch Heavensbee was a central figure in the plans for this rebellion. There were those tributes in the Quarter Quell who even knew bits and pieces about the plan to rebel. Furthermore, it turns out that all the bread that was parachuting down for Katniss’ group was actually code for the day and time in which they would be saved by a hovercraft.

Turns out that District Thirteen actually has rebuilt and does exist. The group is on their way to District Thirteen now.

Katniss is stunned that all of this was going on without her knowledge. Even now as they escape, other districts are in full out rebellion. Katniss and Peeta were clueless about any of these facts.

Katniss questions why they weren’t told and why Johanna tried to kill her. It’s then revealed that most of the tributes were willing to die to keep Katniss alive because she had become a national symbol for the rebellion. They had to keep Peeta alive because without him alive, there’s no way that Katniss would have stayed with the group. Furthermore, Johanna didn’t try to kill Katniss. In reality, Johanna removed the tracker from her shoulder that the Capitol had put there (the tracker helped the Capitol keep tabs on wherever the tributes were).

Katniss then learns of Peeta’s fate. He was picked up by the Capitol. When Katniss learns of Peeta, she jumps at Haymitch and attacks him. Katniss is quickly restrained, she’s put back in her bed, and she’s sedated.

While she’s in a dreary state, Finnick tries to apologize to Katniss for what happened to Peeta. He was just as sedated as Katniss when he was first picked up, so he didn’t have much of a say in going back for Peeta; however, Katniss still doesn’t hesitate to point out that the Capitol will go after his loved one, Annie, in his district. The Capitol will surely use Peeta and Annie to manipulate and blackmail Katniss and Finnick.

Katniss hopes Peeta knows that she’s still alive. She knows that this would make Peeta happy. She even hopes that Peeta finds some way to escape.

Katniss is incredibly angry at Haymitch. She totally feels like he used her and used Prim to his advantage in this plan of rebellion.

Katniss stays restrained for a while. She occasionally gets doses of the medicine that sedates her.

One day, she is pleased to see Gale by her side. He’s been injured and he tells her of the terrible thing that happened back home: the Capitol used planes to bomb their home. Luckily, Gale got her family out. Unfortunately, her home of District Twelve had been eradicated.
