  CATCHING FIRE -- CHAPTER 19
Katniss finds herself in a watery-arena. Besides the dry launch plate, there is water everywhere. After watching her friend being beat up, Katniss must take a moment to refocus. She sees that the Cornucopia is at the center of twelve thin strips that expand out from it. Each strip contains two of the tributes, waiting in the launch pads. In the distance, wherever Katniss looks, she sees land with a dense forest protruding from it.

When the gong rings, Katniss jumps in the water and she swims towards the Cornucopia. Eventually, she jumps up on a strip of land that protrudes out of the Cornucopia and she runs towards the golden cone. The items are all piled within it. Katniss eyes a golden bow and she’s able to grab it just as she senses somebody behind her.

She turns around to find Finnick. Katniss already has the bow and an arrow she pulled from a sheath pointed at him; Finnick has a trident and a net ready to strike her. They have a short conversation on how impressive her swimming skills are, and Finnick remarks on the fact that they’re allies. Just before the Quell, Haymitch wore a fiery bracelet to signify his connection with the tributes of District Twelve. Now, Finnick bears that same bracelet.

Suddenly, Katniss must duck as Finnick takes out the District Five male tribute who approaches from behind. Katniss and Finnick check out the goods that the Cornucopia holds and they make note that it only contains weapons.

Enobaria and Gloss approach from a distance, but Katniss shoots arrows at them to slow them down. One arrow hits Gloss in the calf.

The two take what they need from the Cornucopia just as Brutus approaches. Katniss shoots an arrow at Brutus, but he stops it with his belt.

They know they must get away before the other tributes make it there, so they head on out towards Peeta who is stuck on his launch pad. Finnick volunteers to get Peeta since he thinks Katniss shouldn’t attempt to (Finnick thinks Katniss is pregnant and shouldn’t waste her energy). Finnick quickly returns with Peeta. Mags, who is from the same district as Finnick, joins them too.

They make their way towards the dense forest, only to realize that it is a jungle. They travel for about a mile when they take a break to rest. Katniss climbs a tree to eye the Cornucopia and she sees many dead bodies with their blood staining the surrounding waters.

When she comes down from the tree, Finnick seems unsurprised at the actions of the other tributes. He knows that the tributes would naturally fight each other, thus proving the reason why they won their own Hunger Games. Seeing this scene gives Katniss reason to attack Finnick now to get him out of the way, but Peeta intervenes, stands between the two, and suggests that they look for fresh water.

The group pushes forward, looking for water to no avail. Eventually, they reach a hill and Katniss hopes there will be water beyond it; however, all they find is a force-field. Peeta, who has grown accustomed to slashing away at the forest vines with a knife, continues to do this, but he instead accidently slashes at the force-field. As a result, his body his sent flying backwards as if he’s been electrocuted. To make matters worse, Peeta has no signs of a pulse.
