  CATCHING FIRE -- CHAPTER 25
The next morning, more bread parachutes down (another gift from District Three). All of the tributes are up and moving about.

Katniss decides to wade out in the water to teach Peeta to swim. What she really intends to do, though, is plan her next move with Peeta. Eventually, the alliance they have with these tributes will have to break apart.

Katniss wants to take off now, but Peeta wants to wait until the District Two tributes are gone. Katniss also reasons with herself and knows that Beetee’s goose is cooked if they were to leave the group. She decides to stay with the group for now.

Beetee finally unveils his plan to get the District Two tributes, Brutus and Enobaria. He uses his smarts to point out that Brutus and Enobaria are probably hiding at the edge of the jungle where they can remain safe from the jungle’s elements and where they can watch Katniss’ group.

Beetee then suggests that in the ten o’clock section, they rig his wire on the tree that is struck by lightning at midnight each night. The wire can run from the tree, through the beach, and into the water. The tidal wave that sweeps over the ten o’clock section will dampen the beach. When the lightning hits the tree its electricity will travel down the wire and consequently electrocute the wet beach that the wire runs through. Anybody on the soggy ground will also be electrocuted. If Brutus and Enobaria are in the area when the lightning hits, they will be toast.

Beetee faces some questions about his plan. He assures them all that the wire will work and he says that they’ll be safe as long as they stay far away in the jungle.

Eventually, they make their way to the tree that the lightning hits. Katniss leads them since she says her ear the Capitol fixed can hear the force-field. They get to the tree and settle in around it. Beetee begins testing out the tree, while the others gather food, water, and do all the mundane tasks they have grown accustomed to doing. In the distance, they hear some kind of clicking in the jungle, but luckily it’s coming from the neighboring part of the clock-like arena so they should be safe.

After a while of inspection, the group heads off to another section of the arena while the giant wave sweeps through the area they just left. They return to the area with the lightning tree so that Beetee can rig the wire.

The group then gathers seafood and hangs out on the beach. Peeta even finds a pearl in an oyster shell and gives it to Katniss. Later, another gift from the sky falls down, a parachute filled with seafood sauce and more rolls of bread. The group eats, and Katniss and Peeta sit alone without saying anything to each other. Katniss knows that these are her final moments alive and she hopes that her family gets the pearl after she passes away.
