  CATCHING FIRE -- CHAPTER 13
Knowing that she is going back to fight in the arena, Katniss darts from her house and finds herself screaming outside. She then recalls the words that she just heard President Snow say: “Even the strongest […] cannot overcome the power of the Capitol.” Katniss realizes that the Capitol intends on killing the districts’ symbols of hope, the tributes. She then realizes that there’s no way that Peeta will let Haymitch go into the arena. Peeta will want to be there to play bodyguard for Katniss.

Katniss, still in shock, finds herself in a cellar of one the Victor Village’s houses. She then finds her way to Haymitch’s house where she finds him drunk. He lets her know that Peeta has already visited him, and Peeta already volunteered to go to the Quarter Quell. Katniss, left without much of anything to say, asks for a drink.

Katniss begs for Haymitch’s help in keeping Peeta alive in the Quell. He agrees to it, and Katniss heads back home.

At home, Katniss finds Gale who is quick to hold her. He lets her know that they should have run away. Katniss then passes out from the alcohol that Haymitch gave her. She gets up in the morning, freshens up a bit, and returns to bed. Before long, her mom and Prim come to comfort her a bit. Katniss needs their company in this moment of great sadness.

Later, after sleeping a bit more, Katniss goes downstairs to her family and they comfort her a bit more with hugs and home cooking. Katniss then takes some of her mother’s broth over to Haymitch.

At Haymitch’s house, Haymitch is baffled when Peeta appears with a box of empty alcohol bottles. Peeta has disposed of Haymitch’s liquor and worst yet, he’s threatened the person who makes alcohol to stop selling any to Haymitch. Peeta wants everybody sober so that they can prepare for the Quarter Quell by learning about the surviving tributes and by preparing physically.

Their training begins. Haymitch trains alongside Katniss and Peeta, but his body isn’t capable of much. On the other hand, Katniss and Peeta begin improving more and more. Katniss’ mom, Prim, and even Gale help them prepare.

The day of the Reaping eventually comes around. The Reaping is the day in which the names of the tributes who will be entering the particular Hunger Game or the Quarter Quell are randomly chosen. Katniss is, of course, chosen as the female tribute; and then Haymitch is chosen as the male tribute. Peeta steps into take Haymitch’s place and the two quickly leave their homes.
