Katniss is disappointed that she once again is being used as a pawn in a president’s agenda. The president wants her to perform under certain conditions, and she realizes that she is stuck in a similar scheme as those during and after the Hunger Games. She thought that being a rebel would come with more freedom.

Katniss, later, meets with her old prep team. They will help her transform into the Mockingjay. Katniss is surprised with how different Octavia, Flavius, and Venia look without the fancy getups that the normally would wear at the Capitol.

The team gets to work to transform Katniss into Beauty Base Zero, a flawless, natural condition. They eventually have trouble with a scar, the scar that was left after Johanna removed Katniss’ tracker during the Quarter Quell. The prep team pulls in Plutarch and Fulvia to help them try to solve the problem of the scar, and Plutarch suggests that Katniss just wear an armband.

Next, the team leaves for lunch. The prep team follows Katniss in for food and they sit with her next to people from the Seam. It’s an awkward experience for all those involved, since people in District Thirteen aren’t too fond of these people who were so closely involved with the Games.

During dinner, Gale defends Coin’s announcement and Katniss responds with displeasure. She was hoping more support from him. She doesn’t understand why Gale believes that Coin has to cover her own back too.

The two, Gale and Katniss, later visit the Special Defense level where they are to meet up with Beetee. They find Beetee in a beautiful meadow which has been replicated far beneath the ground. They converse for a bit before Beetee escorts them towards Katniss’ new bow.

They make their way to a Special Weaponry hall, and they enter it after passing through many protective measures. There, Beetee points out a wall of advanced, high-tech archery weapons and he has Gale choose one that he can show off when he stands near Katniss during publicity announcements. Next, Beetee leaves for a moment to grab Katniss’ special new weapon.

Beetee returns with a large black case for Katniss. Katniss opens the case to reveal a slender, black, beautiful bow. She holds it close and hears the bow give a hum. Beetee explains that the bow can recognize her voice. She can now use it to shoot accurately from crazy distances away. Beetee even exposes Katniss to a variety of new types of arrows, including ones that explode.

Eventually, Katniss leaves Gale and Beetee and she makes her way to her prep team. They get her ready for a soundstage.

On the stage, Katniss helps to create a propo. She stands while orders are given, smoke rises, and lights flash. Eventually, the finished product is ready: a propo in which an unrecognizable Katniss looks stunning.

The day’s work is nearly complete when Katniss is told that before dinner she must state one final line. She shouts it and the shooting comes to a close.
